International Training for University members by Civil Society Activists
18-20 Octombrie 2023 (3 days F2F Romania + 8 hr ZOOM over 4 weeks online)

LOCATION: Conference Centre of the Politehnica University of Timisoara, Vasile Parvan Blv, No 2B, at the Central Library of the Politehnica

The training program is provided in the context of the RespectNET implementation process. During the 3 days of face-to-face training there will be presented cases as core multipliers for methodologies university related communication and countering disinformation, bullying and hate speech in a university - civil society context. The training programme will be based on the RespectNET designed matrix of competences and the draft modules of the RespectNET courses and lessons. Main organizations and participants are:

• UNIVERSITATEA POLITEHNICA TIMISOARA (ROMANIA) – host of the event
• UNIVERSITA TELEMATICA PEGASO (ITALY)
• INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL FOR SOCIAL AND BUSINESS STUDIES (SLOVENIA)
• VEREIN FÜR SOZIALWISSENSCHAFTLICHE BERATUNG UND FORSCHUNG E.V. (GERMANY)

In addition, invited speakers from the civil society will provide a real field of debates and discussions through exchange of experiences sessions and the presented studying cases. On 20 of Oct 2023, the training sessions will be integrated in the SIM 2023 conference activities, and a special parallel session will be organized (with papers related to RespectNET project).

The PhD Students workshop provides a good opportunity to receive depth feedbacks on earlier or later stage projects of the PhDs, as well as for preliminary results achieved during the exploratory studies or experimental researches (whatever the methodology or the empirical field of the thesis is). It allows also building a network of peers working related to the research scenarios or field of interest coming from various backgrounds, institutions, disciplines, and countries. Please note that the spirit of the PhD workshop is to be open to any type of articles (relative to the current state of knowledge, the design of the research approach or dedicated to consistent results already obtained), provided that the doctoral student is registered at the conference with at least an article to be part of his doctoral research.

“Meaning and Fusion of Work and Education”

“Meaning & Fusion of Work” happenings propose a broad interdisciplinary reflection, debate and research, both scientific and cultural – artistic perspectives, on key questions about the society. The initiative has been spread from the ErgoWork community to other national and international organizations and specialists. More details of the ideas of the beginning are here: https://meaningandfusion.work/ but first event was organized on 16 of June 2022 (https://meaningandfusion.work/2022/01/24/meaning-and-fusion-of-work-pilot-event-on-16th-of-june-2022/). In the context of Timisoara 2023 European Capital Cultural we expect that during the ErgoWorkshop to include a collection of lessons learned and outcomes … to be shared and served as best practices. Scientific and cultural-artistic interventions (with various type of demonstrations?!) are more than welcome! Take the initiative and express yourselves during the ErgoWorkshop 2023 organize within the SIM 2023 international conference context.

THE SOCIAL DIMENSION OF HIGHER EDUCATION – MEANINGFUL AND SUSTAINABLE CONNECTIONS (ALSO DIGITALLY SUPPORTED) BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY AND THE COMMUNITY

Abstract: The third dimension of higher education is indeed an important aspect that has gained prominence in recent years. Higher education institutions have a crucial role to play in fostering meaningful and sustainable connections between the university and the community. Digitally supported connections can help bridge the gap between the university and the community by providing a platform for effective communication and collaboration. Online tools and platforms such as social media, websites, and virtual events can be utilized to bring the university and the community together, and facilitate the sharing of ideas, resources, and information.
For example, universities can partner with local organizations and businesses to co-create solutions to community problems and address social issues. These partnerships can be beneficial for both the university and the community, as they provide opportunities for students to gain real-world experience, and for the community to benefit from the university's expertise and resources. Additionally, universities can also use digital technologies to provide access to their resources and services to the wider community, such as offering online courses, virtual tours, and digital library services. This can help the university to better serve the needs of the community and promote lifelong learning and skill development.
In conclusion, the third dimension of higher education is crucial for promoting meaningful and sustainable connections between the university and the community, and digital technologies can play a significant role in achieving this.

 
Prof. Dr. Nada Trunk Širca, Jean Monnet Chair, International School for Social and Business Studies, Euro-Mediterranean University, University of Primorska, Slovenia

Nada Trunk Širca (born 1957) has a Ph.D. in Management in Education from the MMU - Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Previous education: B.A. Mathematics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and M.Sc. Management in Education, MMU, UK. From 1995 she is working in higher education, she was the dean and the director of the Faculty of Management, University of Primorska in Koper, Slovenia; from 2007 on she is the director of Secretariat of the international Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) with the seat in Slovenia. In addition, Prof. Trunk Širca is engaged at the International School of Business and Social Studies (ISSBS), PhD school on Knowledge Management. She is a member of numerous committees at home and abroad, e.g. Professional Council of the RS for General Education, Council for higher Education, EERA - European Educational Research Association. Her research and teaching fields include management in HE, quality and evaluations in tertiary education, the recognition of knowledge and lifelong learning in higher education.
Prof. Trunk Širca is associated with the development of the annual MakeLearn & TIIM series of international conferences (since 2011) and with the development of the ToKnowPress publishing house. She is acting as project managers for more than 25 international projects (with partners from in Europe, Africa and Asia).

 Prof. Dr. Valerij DERMOL, International School for Social and Business Studies, Slovenia (https://valerijdermol.eu/)

Prof. Valerij Dermol has a PhD from the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. He gained work experiences in business training and consulting. At the start of his professional career, he worked in international consulting company (Mercuri International d.o.o.). After that he was working for many years as an independent (self-employed) consultant, trainer and educator focusing on the areas of marketing, sales, leadership, management, and communication, having his own company Dermol Consulting d.o.o. It this period he was also involved as a trainer in national project focused on promotion of self-employment among unemployed individuals.
Prof. Dr. Valerij Dermol has experiences in training, consulting, management in business and higher education in Slovenia and abroad. Since 2007, professor at International School of Business and Social Studies (ISSBS) teaching and researching primarily in entrepreneurship, organisational learning, knowledge management and human resources development. Involved in various courses, R&D projects, organization of international conferences, editorial boards, etc. Prof. Dermol acts as editor of several international journals. He was lectured at Kasetsart University, Bangkok – Thailand, at EMUNI University, etc. He puts a lot of effort in equipping young students with entrepreneurial skills and innovative mind-set transferring innovative ideas and knowledge from his own experience.
